Welcome to the forum! If it is a speedo you are talking about, then you are going to have to calibrate it for use on your kart. Speedometers are generally calibrated for the size wheel of the vehicle that they come off off.

Have a search on the forum for speedometers. Toystory posted a formula, or some way to dial speedo's in.

You could use an automotive or motorcycle tach with its trigger wire connected to the briggs magneto/kill-switch wire. You'll need to power your tach with batteries. Tachs made for 2, 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engines will give inaccurate/low readings, but that needle should move around a bit for the kido to watch

Yeah not looking for acurate speed just some sort of instrumentation for "realism". The trigger idea might work fine and i might be able to get it actually close to the rpms of the Briggs which might be handy seeing how the governor has been removed.

I would like to eventually get a tachometer for my 10 hp Tecumseh 4 cycle. Does anyone have any suggestions on a setup that would actually give me accurate readings?

Found this online, it gives a reading by wrapping a sensor around the spark plug wire. Anyone know how accurate of a reading that would give? Also, I think that I would prefer an analog gauge instead of a digital readout.

you can get those off ebay for something like $12, and yes they work, yes they're accurate, but they're NOT weatherproof and I couldn't read mine worth a darn while driving my kart on a dirt road.

I would only want to get an analog gauge anyway, but good to know that those are accurate.
