80cc good for shifter kart?

found a few 80cc dirtbikes for sale and was wondering if it would be good to use on a shifter kart, or if i should get a 125cc or 250cc.

80 should do depending upon your (or the rider's) weight. 125 would be plenty of power and fly. Check out some karts on YouTube by searching things like "80cc go kart" interchanging 125cc or whatever and see how they perform.

A 250 2 stroke would fly, a 125 2 stroke or a 250 4 stroke would be a much better choice because you may find a 80cc a bit under powered after you get used to riding it.

yeah thats what i was thinking. 80cc ones are pretty quick, but i dont want the engine to strain trying to go as fast as id like it. i guess ill find a 125

Should be decent 17hp and 110 kmh (69mph) top speed. Don't expect much more speed out of your kart than what the bike did, at 290lbs you'll have a hard time having a large enough weight difference between the kart and bike to make much of a difference.

EDIT: This might be another choice. Its a two stroke with 20 hp. If you want the extra power it might be worth the exrtra $100. Personaly I would stick with the enduro you posted, no need to mes with mixing, no expansion pipe to deal with, and best of all, two pipes :arf: (just looks and sounds better imo)

yeah 110km is really fast, i doubt ill have the guts going 30km. I just want an engine with some "umph" aka torque. something that gets going pretty fast, quick.

So a 125 or 250 would be better?

That 80cc is probably putting out 12-18hp so your engine would be just in that speed range.

Yeah but look. thats a performance Liquid cooled engine. pushing way more hp than a air cooled stock engine.

Thats true, ill just wait till i find a good priced 125cc or 250cc. trying to get one for under 400.

Just remember that you can part out the rest of the bike after you take what you need, could recoup most of your costs.

Nope, any engine is fine as long as it fits and the frame is strong enough.
