Fixer of Junk
I have to say this is by far my best find on kijiji (Canada's Craigslist). $70 for a complete kart, which included a non running genuine honda gx200.
When i bought it i was told there were a lot of parts that were seized and that it didn't roll for an unknown reason, i didn't really care at that price. After getting it home i looked over it and found that both pedals were the only thing seized, after a bit of massaging they both broke loose, boom problem one solved. Next i fiddled around with the problem of it not rolling, rolled the kart forward and back a couple times, and boom problem solved, rolls perfect. Now the only thing that's keeping it from running is an engine, for that i found a 208cc clone for sale $150 canadian + free shipping.
Do the math and that's $185 (or $240 Canadian) for a running, driving race kart. It just goes to show that with a little effort, a good eye for deals and some patience, you can save a lot of money, and have fun in the process.
If your where i was a couple weeks ago, searching and searching and it seems like all your ever gonna find is people selling ****** karts for $800. Don't. Give. Up. I was lucky, i found this after only a couple days of searching, but it can take a while, but its worth it, trust me.
Some pro tips: (Ps some of these might not apply in the US/ on Craigslist, im not sure)
1. Try EVERYTHING. At least with kijiji the searches are very specific. For example my kart was listed as "go cart", it didn't show up in my search for "go Kart". So try all the combinations. Go kart, go cart, kart, cart, buggy, etc.
2. Always negotiate. Now im not saying go and lowball the **** out of everyone, but go ahead and offer 20, 30, (or more depending on what the price was at the beginning) less than the asking price. The exception is when the ad says firm. When the price is firm asking them to go Lower is just going to **** them off, and no one wins when that happens
3. Don't get tunnel vision. Spread your wings, look on forums, facebook, whatever else you can think of. Often you can find very good deals away from Craigslist (or kijiji)
That's about all i can think of right now. Anyways, have fun and keep on searching!
