New guy here. I just got a cart that has a 6.5hp engine (196cc) and I plan on having some fun racing with my brother and friends on a homemade track. I really don't know much about these carts.

Without completly tearing the motor apart, is there anything I can do to increase it's HP or speed? Not sure of the brand of the motor yet (haven't go it in hand yet) but I am assuming it may have a govenor which I hope to take out. Any little tricks you guys have that can help me get bragging rights by crossing the finish line first?

Thanks in advance.

IMO, you can make a cart go very well if you match the gearing to the course you are racing. Depending on if its a tight curvy course or one with long straights. I would lean toward a larger drive sprocket (12-tooth) for a course with longer straights and smaller drive sprocket (10-tooth) for a tighter course. Good luck!

Here's a trick. Hang out on this site and don't tell your friends about it. then quietly apply what you learn. Definitely remove the gov.

The course is being built now but it will most likely have a couple small woops, not meant as jumps lots of turns and a couple short straight aways. It will be all dirt. I will look into the sprockets.

Thanks.
