im not sure on the available parts for it, but google a billet rod for a tecumseh 6.5.

that is what i would start with, and then remove the governor, and upgrade to an adjustable carb. make or buy a straight exhaust pipe, and upgrade the air filter.

you can keep upgrading everything as far as i know.

air filters might fit, not much more though. (from gx200)

and for the gear ratio, how many teeth on your clutch right now, how many on rear sprocket, and how big is your rear wheel in inches, diameter?

They never did much with the OHH's as race engines. Mostly because Briggs had the market covered and they weren't big enough to build massive open motors out of. They are also prone to rod failure but a billet rod would solve that.
As a guy who used these as a kid and did everything imaginable to them i'll tell you the most you will want to do is make an intake for it out of a piece of PVC, drill the jet one size bigger and make a curved/longer header for it. Make sure you brace the header well because the heads strip out very easily. This should give you about 7hp or a little more and you won't have to get into the internals. You can also set your valve lash a little tighter.

If you don't know about engines than i wouldn't mess with anything that is working as it is though.
