Are you checking valve lash with the side cover off like in the pic above? You can't do that because springs push the cam down and wit ill give you an incorrect reading. You need to set valve lash at TDC with both valves. Make sure you aren't setting it on the exhaust stroke because the exhaust valve will be open.

Is the cam and crank lined up dot to dot?

Just to clarify the valve settings..........

With the top of the arms the farthest away from the springs it should have some kind of slop. You should be able to wiggle them a little bit.

I hope this makes it easier to what we are trying to say.

Yes I have the valves set right I think. I put the side cover back on before setting the lash. Anyone know if I'm supposed to have a magnet on the coil when setting my mark for TDC?

My best guess is I didn't set my timing chart right on the flywheel but it don't have any marks to set as a zero point. Yet the new flywheel has two magnets. Stock flywheelonly had one!

Yes! After all the mods and going back and fourth troublesshooting I just decided to put the stock flywheel back on and it fired the first pull!

its in the spark plug boot. easiest thing to do is get a non resistor one at an atv shop, unthread your old boot, and thread the new one on.
