Need to get a faster acceleration on my 6.5 blue clone. it is on a lil single seat cart. it takes forever to get up to speed, when it finally does i guess the motor is hitting the governer b/c the clutch will disengage and then the motor will rev back up and catch up with itself. what can i do to get a faster take off?. also smooth out the top and and not "bounce the motor"?

I'm no expert, but I would recommend having more teeth/belt area on your power wheel, and less on the motor shaft. This will sacrifice a little bit of your speed, but it really helps on hills and stuff to have more torque. It's like a bike, you don't accelerate in your highest gear, nor do you go top speed in your lowest, so try to find a compromise between the two. so you can satisfy your need for speed, and the time it takes to get there.

Please take a picture of your kart, tell us what the size of your tire is, what sort of chain you are using, 1/2" or 3/8" pitch, what the tooth count is on your clutch and the tooth count is on your drive wheel.
From there we can determine if you need to alter your gearing, your governor, or both.

a torque converter will get you the torque and top speed you're looking for. Otherwise, I'd say pick up a billet rod, flywheel, and 18lb springs and you'll gain a little bit of rpm, durability, and no more governor/stock rod to worry about because you can just pull them out.

I love how everyone suggests that you jump the governor and start buying racing parts for these clones. Typically we have 8-14 year old children riding these karts, although the adult wants to go fast, unless you have a large insurance policy I think its sickening that this is the first response.
Lets wait to see what his karts looks like and what his gearing is before we start telling him he needs to start spending several hundred dollars on his kart.
Well, I think I figured this much out. I have 10 teeth on clutch and 48 on drive wheel. The chain is 1/2" pitch. The tires are 4.10/3.50-5. Trying to get the pics up, no luck there. The sticker on the cart says High Performance Pacesetter Streaker fun cart Model S365

Ease out the limiter screw that stops the control arm on the linkage from going all of the way open. Press the pedal down and see how far that arm does travel towards wide open.
When you press the pedal riding the kart, does it appear as though you can press the pedal halfway before it has any throttle?

well he didn't say he was against spending money, he was asking for directions to fix his problem. I was just giving him the option that gives the best performance gain. Its just oh so sickening that I'm suggesting performance and safety options when no specifics were mentioned, isnt it?
Heck, if you want to just get rid of the pulsing engine, dump the gov. Keep the stock pipe, springs, and stock filter and you wont have to worry about blowing your rod and flywheel because the springs will keep you limited.

Blazkowiez when I press the throttle while on the cart there is no play in the linkage. i also backed that screw out. when i press the throttle carb is all the way open. I have immediate response when i hit the gas pedal just very slow and wont even spin the tire on wet grass till about 10 seconds after the motor builds itself up to a higher rpm range

Wasn't trying to go off on you specifically napalm, it just seems that we have a great deal of responses specifically directed towards hopping up an engine as the first solution to a problem. It seems crazy not to analyze the problem, in this case we still dont have quite enough information to make a significant assumption of the problem and to propagate a solution.
So, in the mean time, I've got a Lonestar and am going to start another thread for those of you over 21 in the states.
