I need to know if it matters the way you turn the crank the 1/4 of turn. Are the the marks on the cam and the crank sprocket to be lined up next to each other or 180 out? This is my first one and I got it torn down so kinda lost.If there is is anything else i should no to make job easyer or not to destroy the thing that would be great.

The piston goes in from the bottom if im thinking correctly(beveled liner helps with the rings). The rod and cap are sensitive to which way they go in.

Yes Kenny is correct, there are tangs on the rod and rod cap that must line up!( go to your local briggs dealer and buy a briggs OEM repair manual they will be about 25 to 30 bucks but well worth it if your a beginner! And as far as the 1/4 turn things goes i have no idea either, and ive rebuilt probably close to 500 5HP L-Head briggs engines. Just be sure to rotate the crank by hand when you get the rod and piston put in, if the dipper hits the side of the block its in backwards and youll have to flip it!
hope this helps
