First post on this board.
I have an old 5hp B&S that I would like to rebuild and modify slightly for my go-kart. I dont think it has a steel sleeve. I also think the valve guides are bad. So, I would like to get some parts for this old junker. Since I don't have a shroud, how can I find a model# for this long block?

Thanks
Nick

Look for a date code on flywheel. Will be in inside edge that faces block.
Will have to be removed from crankshaft to see it.

In this case the circle "C" (coincides to month) is March and then circle "38" is 1938,
March, 1938. It's ballpark but may help.
The number "1" is just the mold number I believe.

This engine might be older than I thought. It has points. A cast iron flywheel. I havnt been able to see any markings on the fly wheel. The cylinder bore should be ok.
