I have a 5hp Briggs that I want a little more power from, but nothing crazy. I don't want to spend much more than $150 but I'm probably gonna buy a rebuild kit out of that money. I have a few things in mind, but i want to know the best parts combo for the money. Right now it has a 12'' straight pipe and did some porting work

you do know you can buy a whole new 6.5hp ohv engine and still have 70 bucks left in your pocket for mods, right? but maybe you just like your briggs flatty, i can understand that.

i know, ive thought about that, but i'm loyal to briggs, and i like knowing it was me and not some underpaid chinese dude in some factory that did the work

simple stuff is gov removal, custom header, high-flow air filter, re-jetting carb (not sure if thats possible with a flatty but prob is, if not different carb), then stuff a bit more complicated, arc rods, billet fly-wheel, increase compression, timing advance, there are prob more

Rap 3 rod is good to 5k(or whatever using stock exhaust springs on both valves floats at) IIRC, same goes for the stock flywheel if it hasn't been dropped, over torqued, etc.
