Clutch is shot on my 5hp briggs motor and I am trying to get the clutch off but cannot get the entire thing off. I got the front piece off including the springs inside but cannot get the collar looking piece on the back of the clutch. Any ideas?

If you have any penetrant, like liquid wrench or pb blaster, soak the stuck piece for a few days (spraying a few times everyday). Make sure all set screws and other locking devices are removed. If it doesn't slide off, try a gear puller.

yeah i tried using a gear puller, but the bolt that you tighten down on keeps slipping off the bolt on the end of the crankshaft

Ummm... yes! Eventually. Right now, it's not impeding that hub from coming off, but the nose of the puller will seat a lot better with that bolt out. Try heating the hub up with a plumber's torch while applying more penetrant.

If the clutch is junk and you don't mind destroying that hub, you can always split it with a hacksaw or grinder. Just be careful not do damage the shaft.

will putting the nose of the pullers up against the threads mess them up at all? Yeah i thought about trying to just cut it off.

I got the clutch piece off. Forgot I had a impact hammer so I just chiseled it off the shaft. Just ordered a new clutch so whenever it comes in the mail, this kart will be ready to ride.
