I scored a 1978 Honda CBR 550cc motorcycle, I've got everything working except I've got no spark. I also have no title, and if I can't get one I will be pulling the engine and putting it on my go kart.

Story behind it is, guy dies and leaves behind wife, wife slowly goes senile and becomes a pack rack, daughter of said wife hires a buddy of mine to clean out the shed and house and trash everything. Behind all the junk are 4 motor cycles, 1 being the 550cc, 2 being small single cylinders, and a frame. Waiting on a signed Bill Of Sale from daughter and hopefully the title. If not, I'm gonna buy diapers and do it.

So here's some questions

-Is a 1" axle too small for 50HP?
-Will I kill myself?
-How in the world do I make the shifter work on a kart?

The bike.

The possible death trap.
Already has hydraulic brakes with a 11" disc, new tires and bearings, axle, etc.

Just know that yerf-dog rear ends bend and brake under the stress of a 6.0hp Tecumseh. You'll rip the frame very quickly and will end up engineering almost any entirely different kart.

Oh, rear end has had some bracing already. I actually intended to rebuild the rear end with 1" square tubing and gussets wherever possible.

Well, no progress was made today, if anything I pushed myself backwards. I accidently fried the rectifier. I need to change the oil and filter, one carb is still over flowing, still no spark.

clean the points. I'm sure its overdue for a carb cleaning also, i assume it has CV carbs, if so they are pretty finicky, so make sure there clean and adjusted.

That is a CB550, not a CBR.

If at all possible i would go with 1 1/4" axle.

Shifter linkage is easy, you can use tie rods, or push/pull cable setup. Very easy. If you get the that point, i can get some pictures/video of how i did mine to give you ideas.

Could you please put a vid of your shifter linkage? I've been trying to figure one out, might make a shifter kart after I get some crap out ot the garage.

Thanks.

Its going on the kart if a title cannot be produced.

I clean the points I have spark there, but at the plugs its extremely weak. you only get a spark when you touch the actual wire to the block.

I heard some poots and pops when cranking it on starter fluid so that's a plus.

I got it running on starter fluid. Def have a bad coil and dirty carbs still. Only the outer 2 cylinders are running. The one coil is warm the other cold along with the corresponding cylinders exhaust headers.
