Add a live axle, trans, and support the frame and you have a genuine. Also, you can use a horizontal shaft engine with a live axle and support the frame. Lover the body on the frame, cut all of the un-needed metal off.

If you just want to make it into a dragracer, you'll need to swap the pulley ratio front to back/back to front. I went to local ag store and got pulley hubs and pulleys that fit the respective shafts and welded the hub to the pulley. Use the biggest you can fit on the motor shaft and the smallest (3") on the trans shaft. Getting the correct length belt will take some trial and error. Be careful not to flip the mower over backwards if you give it lotsa pedal and pop the clutch. We hafta use/make a wheelie-bar to keep the front wheels on the ground. My son usually wins because he's 100 lbs lighter than the other racers.

If you just want a fast mower then swap the pulley on the trans to a smaller pulley, and swap to a shorter belt. I went from a 7" to a 3" pulley and I hit about 30MPH with my old mower. It can be scary though. Just pay attention to the mower. After almost flipping off the back, I flipped my front-end around to make it closer to the ground. Now, she's goin into the derby so I'm gonna raise the front 2", raise the rear 4" and support the frame.
