5 Step Pulley vs Chain

I've heard that belts can slip and slide but that was for a twisted belt drive. I was wondering if it would do the same thing with a horizontal drive. Also is there anyway to make a reliable chain transmission without spending alot of money?

Chain beats belt hands down. Belts can slip, burn and wear in any position. They are also susceptible to wet weather use.

As far as "alot of money", sure, if you shop carefully and don't have any silly notions about getting it done for $2 or less
