5 hp Briggs fun power

We have a kart with a 5 hp fun power engine in it. Runs great on stands, and runs pretty decent on half choke when the son is riding it. But 75% of the time it dies when you let off of the gas.

Any help would be awesome.

You just need to clean the carb and tank. Replace the gaskets /seals and screens..... It will be like brand new..... It's pretty easy to do.... I'd post a direct link, but my finger is starting to go numb lolgoku from too much pecking at the keys.... Search the engines and clutches section for a thread on cleaning it and adjusting/servicing it.....

No, it sounds more like it needs to be cleaned.... If and when an engine only runs ,or runs best, on choke/partial choke, it needs to be cleaned. When you apply the choke, it eliminates some of the air going into the carb to aid in initial start up. It basically adds more fuel to the mixture, by reducing the air..... So if you run best on choke/partial choke, you more than likely have a fuel blockage somewhere, creating a lean affect no choke. And better air/fuel ratio at choke/partial choke.....

Post a pic of the top of your tank, and a side shot from the pull start side. Up close preferred. I want to service the tank top could be warped......

My understanding is the Fun Power carbs are non adjustable and people would swap those carbs for an adjustable one like the racing karters would use. I've never been in one of those carbs so I couldn't say if there is anything that could be drilled to help the situation.

I'd start by cleaning the carb and replacing the stuff, like firemanjim said. 9 times out of 10 a dirty carb or tank causes that, doesn't seem to matter if it's a car, motorcycle or small engine, none of em run good if they can't get fuel.
