Thought i'd chuck up a photos of the small go kart I just built for my young son.
Overall size is 1200mm long x 800mm wide
The 49cc engine and rear wheels were sourced from a crashed pocket bike and the rest is loosley based on a scaled down Ron Champion design (I hope to build fullsize for 2013 challenge) frame was designed to be fitted with a 25mm live axle later as well as bigger engine upgrade as he grows into it.

Taking it out this Friday for a run under it's own power, already had a few practice runs around the block (Dad powered) for him to get used to steering .
Cheers JK

Thanks, haven't done anything like this in 20yrs
Not actually sure what the ratio is ! front sprocket has about 7 teeth and the rear might be 65 ? figured if it could move an adult on a GT Pocket bike it could move a skinny Kid on a Go Kart

We had it out on a big grassed area for it's first run today, pushed it all the way there and it must be 35'c out there ! everything went well under it's own power and my son did a great job at driving for the first time ! although he anounced afterwards "I need to be 5 to drive a go kart " and that he got a bit "freaked out" by how fast it actually went. Only problem was the huge amount of wheel spin when using slicks on dry grass (not suprised) and the muffler fell off the expansion pipe as the guts had corroded out (was going to replace anyway with quieter version) All in All a good first run !

Thanks Landuse ! Really happy with how the little buggy went, gearing was spot on, need some descent tyres with grip now ! unfortuantly the rear rims are 6.5" so stuck with mini moto type tyres ($15 ea on fleabay) unless I change the rear wheels. My son is turning 5 in june so I hope that the little kart has many years in front of it !
Cheers JK

Very well done, sir! I like the fact that you scaled down a proven chassis design to suit your needs! Did you scale it to a specific percentage, i.e. 60% of original size.

I worked on making it about two thirds of the full size, I like the design of the Ron Champion and wanted the roll bars etc. also I thought it would be cool to have a big one and a little one, and also major requirement is to be able to get both buggys on my trailer at once.
