I just got home with a 420cc predator. It has the *49 model number and 19.8 ft/lbs of torque listed on the side of the box.

I took out of the box and it looks like its got some extra bits on it.

What raised a red flag is it looks like the exhaust sticks out more than the other model. I'm worried the 40 s TC backplate won't fit.

Am I crazy?

wow my phone camera sucks. sorry for the crappy pictures. Hopefully you can see the exhaust pipe coming out of the engine and how it overlaps where I think the TC will sit

Heh, I barely knew it was the exhaust let alone make a better one.

I'm about half tempted to take it back and get the other one.

Ok, just watched a kid install a tc on a 420. I see how it sits. It's all good.

Anyone know if the governor removal process is the same?

I have a 301. I think they are the same as in they are "big blocks".
Some things might have their differences in measurements but the basic procedure is the same.

So with the stock cam and connecting rod, is there any benefit to removing the counter balance shaft on these engines? Or does that just make it shake?

I'm asking in general for anybody reading along. It might help us both learn about this engine.

Counter balance shaft is necessary. They didn't put enough R&D into it to make a balanced engine.

I saw somewhere, a guy added material to the crank and then remachined it to balance out.

Not you normal DIY job.

Governor removal is not particularly difficult, but if you barely knew what an exhaust looked like :D , then I would probably just leave it alone

heh, ok so I was being a bit overly dramatic. :)

I'm sure I'll have some questions when I get around to that part of this project.
