Ok, i got a delema, i'm making a shifter kart for my senior project, i have a cr500 motor that im considering using, but the exhaust bend has me a little concerned, it would be extremely close to the driver. my original idea was to put a rmz450 motor in the kart, then modify the rmz chassis to fit the 500 motor. the more i look at the cr500 in the rmz frame the more work it seems to be. so im considering just putting the 500 in the kart and put the rmz togeather. my concern is how beefy will my mounts have to be to handle the torque of a big o'l 500, its ligtly modded so its at about 60+ hp. also how in the heck could i start it by my self if i have to. thanks

a modded cr500 will have mush more hp than that. stock cr500 makes 65hp. not sure of your definition of "lightly" but most with a little tweaking and exhaust make 70+hp so you could be upwards of 80-85hp

and if you plan to use a race kart frame with 11" tires and 80hp it will be useless and annoying to drive.

its a 2001 energy reactor chassis, not made anymore. and a stock cr500 has 55 hp. slightly modded i mean partialy ported and polished and its a 505cc instead of a 491cc stock, it might be able to smoke the tires at 100 mph, that dosent make it anoying, it makes it awsome

Some guys cut their old motocross pipes into sections, then twist/turn those sections to fit their shifterkart better, then re-weld the pipe all back together. If you do it right, you wont be changing the overall length or tuning of the pipe.

Yeah your motor mount will need to be super strong, I'd probably want it to have 3 butterfly clamps instead of just 2 like normal. You could check out some CR125cc motor mounts at this site: http://www.sharkshifter.com/karts.htm and then build yours stronger and to fit your 500.

Most guys with shifter racekarts just push start-em, the rr-tire usually ends up in the way of using the kickstart. If you search shifterkart on youtube, you'll find some videos of guys push starting their shifters.

I'd rather make my own than spend $170 bucks for some, it gave the the design im gunna make though, thanks. and I did consider cutting the pipe, its not in the best shape anyway and if i put it on a bike i'd replace it, so if i put the 500 motor on it I'll do that, might make a custom silencer too, the stock hockey stick looks horible. Finaly i know that most of the time people bump start shifter karts, but my concern is trying to bump start a 500, i used to be able to bump my 125 litteraly at a walking pace, but my 250 i gotta run, a 500 im gunna need to be towed or start on top of a mountain.
