440cc Gocart Possible??

Ok well my dad totalled his 78 skidoo 440 TNT last winter. the engine was a 44cc 2 stroke So i took the motor and other connected parts outta the snowmobile as well as the steering setup. I was wondering if anyone has ever takin a similer engine and built a gocart witht the engine in the back. I am looking for ideas on how to build this thing cause i honestly have no clue. I know it will have a rough off road life. Any sites, pictures, or even ideas would be greatly thanked.

With that much power your probably looking at a buggy. Did you salvage the sled CVT?

Sled engine-powered buggies are the best. You've got tons of power, and an automatic clutch and TC that can all withstand the power. As you'll probably get going pretty fast, something with suspension is a good idea. A common setup is to have your rear axle on a swing arm, with a jackshaft aligned with the swing arm's pivot point. Have a chain going from the jackshaft to the axle, and your TC's driven pulley on the other end of the jackshaft.

If you wanted to keep it simple and run the belt straight to the axle, that would work, but it would make changing the belt a pain.

It's good you saved the steering setup, cause that may prove useful on a kart. Did you salvage the front suspension, too?

No...it wouldnt work at all. The gear ratio would be too high to even move. In fact, you will likely need TWO jackshafts to get enough gear reduction.

I did not save the front suspension as it was really really hard. But i happen to have two rear shocks off a old dirtbike. I might be able to so something with them in thre rear.

Hahaha. The main goal of this cart to try and make me and my friends scared to drive it from the power or that engine. We need a new rush.
