Hello guys, so been working on this race kart for about a month now pretty much on my own, but not the first time i have taken on a go fast as i can project. I found this shifter kart for sale and bought it for 400.00 with no engine, brakes, and big ideas. I had this 440 cc 2 stroke snowmobile engine for a ultra light aircraft I was going to put together some day. Seen this kart and that Idea took a walk. After tons of research, I decided that I did not want a CVT or jack-shaft set-up, I wanted a centrifugal clutch like most karts from back in my kid days. Problem was no one made a clutch that could handle 40+ hp. Well i found a couple companies that make clutches for industrial use. Noram clutch makes a TRY-Lobe clutch that holds 18 to 50 hp for 545.00. I bought it, also found out that SBT (jetskiparts) place that makes an electric starter. Converted it from points to electronic (CDI) ignition. Found an original carb on ebay, very nice one to. I got the clutch for Noram and it comes with two belt groove pullys on it, well that will not work, already had a set of 530 chain sprockets and took the clutch to a great machine shop down the street from my boat shop and they went to work on the clutch so i could put a 12 tooth sprocket on the drum of the clutch, 785.00 dollars spent modifying the clutch, it is totally serviceable even after the mods. My final parts should be in on Tuesday and plan on seeing what she can do. I have some pics below of this project coming together. As soon as I run it, i will be hollering at you guys and will give a total cost of the build up to that point.
