You are in California and go Powersports is in Texas the elevation change and you closer being to the ocean is going to make the Jets different it sounds like you're still running it lean you need a bigger jet still

You can get a hobby drill bit set from a hobby store and drill your own jet that way you don't have to buy new Jets all the time

And if you kept your stock jet that means you can use it and go back to the other one if you go too far

Back firing is usually caused by unspent hot fuel. I dont think that is a sign of being too lean.

Once I get the chain hooked up I can do a plug chop test. I just assumed this was a common upgrade kit that lots of folks have done.
