I have one of these on a 420cc and it made a noticeable difference in power and response. I decided to try one because I do a lot of off roading on rough trails and kept running into float issues. These carbs have no floats, so no issues with bouncing around. As stated above, it really depends on what you are willing to spend, as these are not cheap, and you will need an intake adapter, air filter adapter, throttle linkage setup, and a fuel pump for optimum performance (all part numbers and the website are on my blog here http://charliesgokartstuff.wordpress.com/parts-info-for-frankenstein/).
Some people say they are tricky to adjust, but it has low and high speed finger adjustments and as far as I am concerned is the EASIEST thing I have ever tuned.

Oops, I forgot to mention ... the Tillotson carb above has no provision for a choke. For me, it isn't a big deal, because of electric start, but, if you do not have or use the electric start, tuning it could be a bear. I had my wife cover the carb with her hand (with the air filter removed) to choke it for easier starting. She still has the rope burn marks on her hand! LOL! Once tuned it starts easily!

Is that so? I have the 420cc, and it'll only start on choke. The starter motor has to go through gear reduction and turns the shaft slower as opposed to a pull start which is more sudden. So it needs a richer mix from what I understand to start.

OP, what kind of power are you aiming for? You don't have enough power with the stock set up? I have no complaints with it, and I can hit 4500 RPM with the governor in tact. Of course I don't think it would hit that speed under load.

i THINK the lifan 420cc ( says 16hp but who knows) with a header and no gov alone will attain 4500 rpms ...even under a load. note to self......gotta get a tach !

I know it's not good for engines, but for the hell of it I did measure my engine's speed with a tinytac. All I had on there was a heavy duty clutch which I don't think counts as a harmonic balancer, then I wrapped the pulse wire around the spark plug wire 3 times or so and cranked it up. Over about 15 seconds, I slowly revved it until I pulled all the way past where the throttle stop screw would be and the tac read ~4,500. When my phone comes on Tuesday, maybe I'll take a picture.
