I am building a cart with a 212 Predator and about to make the motor mount plate.

I want to make the motor mount plate big enough to upgrade to a 420 Predator.

Is anyone able to share some measurements from a 420 with a 40 series TC so I can see where the driven sprocket ends up in relation to the motor mount bolt holes ?

Something like this as viewed from the back...

I am looking for the distance between the driven sprocket (the "|" On the TC) to the closest row of mount holes ( "L" ).

Realizing that photos are much better than my attempt at a txt drawing....


Here is the measurement for the driven sprocket on a 212 and chinesium TAV compared to the engine mount holes.


The driven sprocket is about 2-1/4" to the leftmost row of mounting holes and about 5-1/4" to the rightmost row of mounting holes.

The engine mount diagrams on HF don't consider the clutch or TAV sprocket location, and the TAV diagrams don't show engine mount holes.

...so I have the data for a 212 and series 30, but need this measurement for a 420 and series 40.

Then I can determine if one mounting plate will work for both engines or if the chain for the 420 will intersect the 212 plate footprint.

I did some more internet searching and found some pictures that should get me into the ballpark.

Photos are from a post on this site a few years ago... they are using a piece of 6"x3"x12" rectangular tubing at the base of the 420 for reference. Trying to sort out the driven sprocket alignment with the clutch, ad that was the nature of the post.

It appears the driven sprocket would go on the JS that passes through the rectangular motor plate, between the motor and the belt driven pulley.

The person who converted my kart to a 420 used this setup. You can purchase it from one of the online sites. They are designed for the small block and it caused all of the TQ issues. Between only being 5 inches wide, drilled and slotted by a blind person and otherwise general lack of precision, they did a good job.

Hi @turnleftandgasit

So is your driven sprocket on the JS about even with the outer case of the engine ? A measurement from the engine mount holes to the driven sprocket would be helpful.

I made my plate 7 inches wide but will have to go back and look to see if it would have enough clearance to hold pillow blocks underneath for the driven JS.

I stopped by HF yesterday and made measurements on the output shaft in reference to the engine mount holes.

The shaft is 2-3/4 long.
measurements are from the end of the shaft... so take 2-2/3" off to estimate where the chain area *may* be located.

This is hard to tell for sure without all the parts, since the 40 series converters are different - some have backing plates and some dont.
