Hey Guys
I have an ingnition issue. I have a 4 wire Kandi 150cc and i am trying to re wire it back to a 6 wire CDI
The 4 wires I have are BLK, Red/W, Blu/W and Blk/Y
does anyone know where these go? There are no wiring diagrams anywhere w these wire colors and i am not an electrican, so looking for an easy re wire diagram
Thanks

Well it's always the same with those shiny (replace n by any other letters you like)
chinese gy6es no two are identical and they change colors like a mood ring ...

Now, identify the ORIGIN of your four wires!

A 6 pin CDI has a 4wire part and a two wire part.
hold the CDI so that the pins will face towards you and the four wire part is on the left side.

Now Pin numbers are as follows:
1 2 | 5
3 4 | 6

Pin 1: Connected to the Alternator (Magneto Trigger)
Pin 2: Connected to the ignition coil (positive; should have a green dot on the coil terminal)
Pin 3: NOT CONNECTED
Pin 4: Likely connected to the ignition switch (de facto GROUND)

Pin 5: Likely connected to the Kill switch (optional)
Pin 6: Connected to the Alternator (Magneto CDI Power)

The problem is finding the correct setup for the two wires coming from the Magneto.
the trigger should have a small module of sorts attached just before the magneto,
downside: it can be hidden away behind the cover.

But if you have the original plug still ON those wires.. Pin1 will again be Pin1 ;)

4 PIN CDI Layout (CDI side) protusions facing left, latch up)
1 2
3 4

Pin 1: Connected to the Alternator (Magneto Trigger)
Pin 2: Connected to the ignition coil (positive; should have a green dot on the coil terminal)
Pin 3: de facto GROUND
Pin 4: Power from rectifier/battery (12V +)

PS May I ask why you don't install a 4Pin CDI just as intended by the manufacturer?

Wire placement

Thanks for that, so it seems like the wire colors don't matter...great!
Looks like I need to cut off some insulation and run wires down

I wish it would have come w an identical CDI, it came w a 6 wire, lent it to a friend for his kids for a month, came back all the wires off bc he was trying to upgrade to performance CDI and Ingition Grp as a favor

what do you mean by shorting out..
in fact creating a short frying the CDI.. yes.. difficult and unlikely but not impossible.

Shorting as in bypassing? No.

Any chance 4 wire colors and function are avail?

Sid
I have the 4 wires mentioned above and trying to fit them into a 6 wire CDI, which I was told was the proper CDI
I called the Kandi US Rep and they didn't want to help...figures
Any idea on how to find correct wire colors w/o pulling out the insulation and tracing the whole bundle all over the place?
Thx

no need to pull wires or anything...

they all have some sort of terminal or connector on each end;
and are unlikely to change color inside the harness itself.

four wires, that's 15mins to test them individually to see what they do
(takes longer to ask Kandi imho)

four, one is grounded, find that ground wire first and mark it accordingly
(continuity test on multimeter, one probe at the neg terminal of the battery the other testing any of the four wires)
three to go
find the positive wire... (continuity test, one probe on the positive terminal of the battery the other testing any of the three leftover wires; make sure ignition is on)
mark and proceed

find your ignition coil, look at it's terminal side and look out for the green dot...
again continuity test between this one and both of the two leftover wires individually..
no green dot, test both one after another until your mm buzzes ;)

and you're done, once that's identified, you have three of four wires identified and the fourth will go to the alternator.

I don't see why you would want to strip the harness for doing so.

if you do NOT have a mulitmeter, DO NOT install a CDI (period)
the simple rule is: colors in those cheap chinese wiring harnesses change without notice at times... you cannot rely on just a color code on a harness that was messed with (NEVER!)
if you had the original connector on it, you wouldn't need to ask, so yeah, your harness was messed with.
