3HP Briggs Throttle Linkage.

Hello All, new to the forum. I recently picked up a pair of Streaker go karts with 3 hp briggs. I am rebuilding them and have a question on the linkage. I replaced the carbs and not sure how to make something for the throttle linkage. Can someone please post pics of their linkage set up? This will help me get ideas on how to set it up. Thanks!!!

Post pics of your engines. I'm not sure what you have, especially since you replaced the carbs.

I guess they still have their governors, then? If you’re keeping the governors, then the under-gas-tank throttle setup is what you’re going to need which is in landuse’s first illustration.

Why did you replace the carburetors? Pulsa jet carbs are ridiculously easy to fix and service, plus, I’m not sure what type you had but these newer carbs look like the non-adjustable EPA type.

The under the gas tank set up is broken. The carbs I had were nasty and corroded, I went with a $17 ebay carb. Either way I did not have any linkage or throttle setup.

Without a tedious hunt for parts to rebuild the throttle-to-governor linkage, I guess your best most cheapest bet would be to bypass the governor.

I would suggest using a Briggs Raptor throttle setup, but it will require using a different air cleaner assembly because the Raptor throttle will not work with the large "clamshell" air cleaner box.

I'll try turning one around tomorrow but I'm pretty sure ypu can turn them 180 and they clear

Nah, his is the later carburetor that uses two screws on the carb throat/intake.

Here's a setup I used with the Raptor/racing throttle kit. It's meant for the Pulsa-Jet adjustable jet carburetor (and the Raptor carb) but it can be adapted for the later fixed jet style.

For the return spring, I used an extension spring because the torsion spring that comes with the above kit isn't long enough for the later style carburetor.

I placed the kit's steel bellcrank in the spot where the plastic governor bellcrank was on the original setup.

For convenience, I kept the tank mounted engine control bracket in place so I could retain positive operation of the choke. I might remove it later on.

The only thing I didn't do is attach the throttle cable and clevis connector.

No problem.

I don't know for certain if there will be interference between the racing throttle and the old air cleaner assembly on your engines.

Obviously I have something different. I had that aluminum velocity stack made for this engine (by Firemanjim) so I could get rid of the OEM box with paper filter inside that usally covers the carb. A foam racing filter fits right on top of it.

You can easily fab up a new air filter adapter out of nearly anything that is cup-shaped--

A small tin can (Vienna sausage can) or an ABS or PVC plumbing pipe end cap. Flatten the bottom on a flat piece of sandpaper or a belt sander so it provides a perfectly flat mating surface, drill it and go.

I'd still use a gasket between the adapter and the carb, either OEM or cut from a cereal box.
Measure the OD of your homemade adapter and Gewgle the filter in the proper diameter (or Ebay).
