3000w inverter and AC motor?

Iv got a duracell inverter 3000 that I got for free and was wondering if it could be ran to run a Ac motor if it was even possible? Any help would be appreciated, was thinking about running some sort of double shaft, speed controlled bench grinder, thanks

BUT, You would then need an AC controller to regulate the speed of your motor (not sure of what kind of speed controller the bench grinder motor would come with) - three phase would be simpler than single phase. I'm not sure what kind of controller would use 120 Volt single phase as an input. Efficiency would suffer as each device would consume some of the battery's energy. Also, the input is 12 Volt so the batteries would need to be connected in parallel - that would produce a fairly high current. Not unmanageable, but 260 Amps isn't anything to dismiss lightly.
Your question was if it was possible - Answer: Sure.
Would it be practical? Not so much.
If you go that route, keep us informed.

First, why would you need to have variable speed for a grinder?....

And with that being said..... a DC motor drive unit for a dc motor.... would be the better bet.... Depending on the unit may/may not have a tach to see the speed.... but a machine tach is fairly cheap to setup on these.... (also changing gear ratio will modify the speed even further)...

the inverter doesn'T care WHAT AC device you run off it, as long as it doesn't draw more than 20Amps continuously ..

so yes, you likely can run a bench grinder (within the specs of course)

downside is.. you need the batteries to provide the juice as well..
it draws 260 amps from the batteries while providing the power for your bench grinder..

soooo you still need to carry a metric ton of those to power your motor.
And that being said... why convert power (and loosing some in the process) to run a less than ideal motor when with less parts you can run a much better motor directly from the same amount of batteries?

This reminds me of a dude I used to know who thought it could be possible to run his generator to a battery charger and then plug his battery charger to his inverter and hook it to his batterys or something stoopid like that and create free electricity or something.

He was a tweaker.

Its not the case that im stupid or trying to do things the hard way, im a medical gas engineer that works on compressors and vacuum pumps that run medical gas for hospitals so I have endless controll cabinets and AC motor with thousands of dollars of part I can aquire for free, such as this inverter, so you can say im trying to build with the least amount of spent cash, but i understand its a way more exspensive route im trying to take. Maybe my project is to large for this fourm maybe im more barking up the tree of a EV car rather than kart

Neither I'm afraid!
A 3kWatt inverter (or realistically 2600W) is nowhere NEAR close enough to the power you'd need for a car you would need about ten of those for a car at the very least (26kW is a much better number for cars)

3kW is well suitable for karts though med-large'ish single seater) .. it's just much more hassle than you'd think if you want to use that inverter.

for that amount of power straight DC is the much much easier way of achieving this (with less weight, better efficiency and effectively less money to be spent)

But alright... you want to, then please do so... but do not start complaining afterwards:

Get a bunch of batteries,
say 64Ah in size each, at the very least 4 .. better six.
connect them all up in parallel (use the thickest wire you can find to do so)
that goes straight to your inverter.
hook up your angle grinder.
If it's a good brand it comes with a PWM speedcontrol (the further you push the button the faster it goes) if not, you need to shop for a different one.
hook it up...

read the max rpm from the box (or label)
with the tyre size of your wish known use that rpm and the wheelsize to roughly calculate your gear ratio (it's safe to assume your kart will not be much quicker than maybe 18-20mph)
you will certainly know how, right?

With that ratio find a set of sprockets that will achieve that ratio.

connect all up and you're basically set (remote throttle and mounts and all the details left out here ;))
