So I’ve been looking at 30 series torque converters for my dingo project, and since I don’t know crap about them, I need some advice.
I want to up the engagement as much as possible since I’ve decided to put one of my open motors on this thing. The more the merrier, how high can I make this come in? The engine I’ve picked for this one can turn 9500 rpm without a problem, and is most likely north of 20hp (never dyno’d it) and yes, I know this is way past what they recommend for a 30 series, but I’m just gonna slap a stamp on it and send it. If I tear up belts, then so be it. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, and I’ve decided to roll the dice on this one.
What can I do to make a 30 series come in late and hard?

I think the msot complete list of series 30 springs and weights can be found on beltpalace.com

IIRC blue/silver garters on aluminium weights (146gr) mean 4600 rpm engagement.
there's also ultralight weights with another few grams less (90 gr IIRC)
that'll raise the engagement to 5500 rpm or such
but I only ever saw them mentioned on a Comet engqagement chart..
never for sale...

[EDIT]
okay comet part number
90gr weights: 216117
blue/silver garter: 216115A

Awesome, thank you. That’s just what I was looking for.

Just to add to this... Just installed the yellow springs on mine with the red supplied spring in the 3rd hole on the driven pulley. Bike starts to grip right around 3800 for me. Pulls to 5600-5700 with a 75t sprocket and 15" tire. We race them straight line to 300ft.

Big issue I have it belt slip. Is there anything we can do? Cleaning the sheaves helps for 1 maybe 2 runs. but only slightly.

I see the juggernaut 30 series upgrade was just released but not available till march.

The cheap TAV-30 sheaves appear to be secured with 3 rivits. Has anyone drilled these out and put a concave sheave on both sides with a V belt?

I tried 3m adhesive spray between races and this also seemed to help for 1 race or so. Then it makes a mess and needs to be cleaned off. before it "sticks" again.

Any tips appreciated!

Also i'm at maybe 12 hp and it comes off the line quite well, then slips like a bastard around 160ft out and i get passed by the quick clutch fellas.

Did you ever find anything out about drilling the rivits on the 30 series?

No but I did find what appears to be direct bolt on "20 series" driver and driven pulleys. They appear to just drop on and have the bevel on both sides. Cheap on Ebay. I believe I have $75ish in both and picked up a $25 kevlar V-belt. No idea if it will work I'll keep this updated.

I wish there was a higher hp rated 30 series. My belts get hot and sticky and then the driven gets jammed up with the belt. I break garter springs alot also.
