Have you got the driven off now? If so, take the jackshaft out and get a punch a little smaller in diameter than the diameter of the jackshaft. Use the punch to knock the bearing out from the inside, I.e. Put it trough the other bearing and knock out the bearing that needs to come out.

Then see if there are any markings on the bearings for replacement.

The driven is what I'm trying to get off at the moment so I can get a look at everything and replace what needs it. I've just never done this before and don't know how to remove the driven. I've searched all over for a write-up on removing it and it seems none exist.

****...

First off... How did you even notice it was bending? lol. I didn't think I had any pictures that showed that.

And second, I'm a noob when it comes to karts. This is the first one I've ever messed with, so you'll have to go into a little more detail on how to get this off.

Yes the bearings are shot. That is correct, I've had bad bearings on my BMX bikes before and they sound the same as this. So, I have to get to the bearings and replace them.... How do I do this? =\

I used my powers of magic.

To remove the clutch as a whole remove the nut from the threaded shaft. Then apply penetrating lube and pray that you can get the clutch off without damage.

You may need a pickle fork (front end ball joint tool) and mallet. With patience this usually gets them out.

Worse cast scenario get a cut off wheel and slice the right side of the shaft (its just a nut welded to the shaft) and punch the shaft out so you can work on getting the driven clutch off clean.

The shaft will be ruined from riding on bad bearings, occasionally they are good, but likely not.

For the deck itself being bent you can re-enforce the back deck once you've beaten it straight. Here is an example of one we braced.

Okay, so if penetrating lube works, do I just grab the driven and try to twist it off, or is there a certain way of doing this?

Sooooo..... I can just tap the shaft out as is? Because my current goal is getting the driven off so I can get the shaft out.

I wouldn't have to ask so many questions is someone did a write-up on this (Hint hint, wink wink) Because I have absolutely no knowledge on how to remove the driven or the jackshaft other than what you guys have told me. It would probably be best if someone can explain step by step for me because without pics, my brain is useless. I also don't want to go out and start beating on the kart with no results to show for the abuse...

Bump?

Can anyone give me a step by step? I like to do things right the first time. So far I've tried 3 times...

Well... That's already been suggested but, doesn't quite explain what to do. Do I have to remove the driven first, and then tap out the shaft? Or just stick this tool in between the driven and jackshaft and knock the driven off, then knock the jackshaft out? Orr..... What? =\

I'm not trying to be a pain, guys. Normally I just find a write-up and go at things like this, but there isn't one. So I'm kind of accustomed to the layout of a write-up with a lot of details and pics. I can go without the pics, i just need more details on what exactly I'm doing. I just don't wanna do it wrong. I've already made myself feel like an idiot the three times I attempted to do this lol....

Generally speaking I don't have the time to do a write up on everything karting related, nor does it seem necessary.

Yes, knock each object off the shaft, remove the shaft, clean it, replace the bearings, check the shaft for damage, replace if necessary, reassemble and go.

If you get the shaft out with the driven clutch connected you can punch it out, if you knock it off the shaft its great too.

replace bearings, spray it with penatrating oil, on the nut the bearing races and spacers, soak everything, pull it apart use a screw driver pop bearings out and pop new bearings in, done, FYI that is the driven pulley

Okay... So I'm still going at this. I bought some penetrating lube at an auto store the other week, and I've probably sprayed this stuff on the jackshaft about 9-10 times, and let it sit. Today i got out there with a mallet, and I just kinda got the feeling I was going no where after pounding away at the jackshaft trying to get it to slide out, for 5 minutes with no progress.

Am I just doing this wrong or what? =\

If I can just get the driven off, I can probably make some progress on the kart and get it riding again. :mad2:
