So, some info.

6.5 Tecumseh
30 series comet
brand new belt

I was ridin today and I ride the Yerf Dog through some really thick stuff. I live in TN so we have random patches of bedrock through all the grass that can either be rough or flat. Well i really only ride over one rough spot and today I kinda started goin over it fast. Probably where my problem comes from...

But the Driver part of the clutch/tc with the spring on it, has come loose. And I don't mean the spring, I mean the whole part. I can take it and move it maybe 1/8-1/4 inch side to side. Made an attempt to simply tighten it with some wrenches but nothing was different.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for useful posts.

Lemme know if the vid and pics are good enough. It's not light enough for me to take more so if you need more it'll have to wait a week, maybe two weeks. I'm not living in the same place as the kart yet but will be soon.

edit: also if it's worth anything, that metal guard that separates the tc and the motor... I totally snapped the mount for it right next to the driver. So the damage to that could be from the same incident that caused the driver to come loose.

Looks like you blew the bearings out on the jack shaft. The bearing directly behind the driven pulley holds a tremendous load, especially over rough terrain. What happens is the wheels come off the ground and they spin up when they come back down they are traveling faster than the kart is moving. Its kind of like revving up your car and dropping the cultch and doing it over and over again. Eventually something will break. It just so happens that the weak link in the chain is the bearings on the jack shaft.

That sounds about right.

So I'm about to go visit the kart tomorrow (technically today it's 2 AM) and I figured I should get to removing the whole part so I can get a closer look at everything. So is there anything I need to really know before I do this? It probably won't present a problem but I don't want to screw it up just by takin it off.

Well. I didn't get far lol. I already know I don't have the proper tool for this little ring. And I don't really feel like goin and buyin one (Even though it might be worth while, I might just replace the whole jackshaft) I'll have a buddy to help me in an hour or two as well.

This is the first kart I've ever messed with so, your guys' time and patience is appreciated =] I have a good size set of tools but far from organized, and not that diverse.

Btw I think you guys should do a write up on the removal on this piece and sticky it. I've looked everywhere and can't find one. I haven't even found directions for taking it off.

All that it is is a snap ring. There are snap ring pliers that you can buy that take them off easily, but there are many other ways to get them off. The pliers are quite cheap. Even if you break/bend the snap ring in removal, they are very cheap.

Yes you could get those at home depot or Lowes also autozone, advance etc. You have inside lock ring pliers and outside lock ring pliers. the pair you need are for outside snap rings. The inside snap rings gets compressed to release some of the pliers can remove both.

Why are you removing the snap ring to take the clutch apart?? The clutch should slide off as a whole, it might be held on by rust once you get the nut off. More than likely your shaft and bearings need replacing. The sprocket and clutch will go on the new shaft just fine. Also your back deck is bending, take a step back and look at it, you'll see where its bending.

****...

First off... How did you even notice it was bending? lol. I didn't think I had any pictures that showed that.

And second, I'm a noob when it comes to karts. This is the first one I've ever messed with, so you'll have to go into a little more detail on how to get this off.

Yes the bearings are shot. That is correct, I've had bad bearings on my BMX bikes before and they sound the same as this. So, I have to get to the bearings and replace them.... How do I do this? =\
