Very cool.

Im glad you posted that. Nice rundown of your cart. Im a petrol head as you might say. The instant torque of E motors is intriguing. How does that compare to the gas engine that was on it originally?

And for Pete's sake. You can put batteries that kart but you can't put batteries in a smoke detector? 😆 🤣

Lol, I hadn't even realised that smoke alarm came through on the video 😅 Need a machine to get to it. It's in the middle of the warehouse roof 5-6 meters up.

If I lived in the country I would be a petrol head too. The whine of an electric motor isn't exactly masculine but it's more incognito than a noisy petrol motor.

The original 9hp motor was unmodified and had a wet clutch. So low down torque was really poor, too the point it could not take off from stand still in boggy sand (I think I have a bit of video of that somewhere). Once it started getting up to speed it was fine.

The electric conversion has no problem powering through boggy sand. I don't recall if I tried to accelerate from 0 on the one and only test run I did but I'm pretty sure it would have no issues accelerating from 0 on sand.

I've seen a little how others trick up there 4 strokes, swap the wet clutch for torque converter, remove the governor, port the head, swap the exhaust pipe etc... from what I can tell some of those go really good and might even be better than electric (at least they keep running if you keep pouring fuel in).

Ah, I have posted karts like yours in my Chinese Go Kart thread which is long on pictures, short on substance. Maybe you can give us more of a review on the thing as it was originally. What is the build quality on the frame like and do you think the Coke bottle design of the frame, narrow in the middle, is dangerous if one of your feet falls off?

A question on availability, was it bought at a motorsports dealer or what?

I bought mine locally on marketplace for AU$1500. Maybe a little on the high side for a 2nd hand machine but these particular models aren't too common in Perth. There's a shop over east (3500km other side of the country) that sells them - Kids Gokart for Sale - MJ Motor

I haven't had much to do with offroad karts prior to the two i have now. So I might not be giving you the answers you're looking for, however i can say that build quality feels like chalk and cheese. The little kart is not designed to haul my arse around with 12kw of power so all the joints and moving parts are getting pretty flogged out. I haven't used the big kart much (yet) but it feels bigger, beefier and generally more solid.

The first time i drove the big kart it did feel like my feet were loosely flopping around and could've dropped off the side. I never thought about them folding back under the kart frame...?? I put my feet in a different position now so they are less likely to fall out. If i remember i'll get a pic later.

Your chinese go kart thread is cool. I don't really know how your tariffs work now but if shopping on aliexpress is an option you could find them - go kart 9hp - Buy go kart 9hp with free shipping on AliExpress

There is also this place for the smaller karts - Zyliathor | Off-Road Go-Karts & Electric Karts for Outdoor Adventure – Zyliathor Go kart
