One problem that's sorta common on older race karts is a front-lower frame section that's been constantly rubbing against the track over bumps because the previous owners had the front spindles adjusted as low as possible to improve handling. Kart racers refer to this as the frame being "D-shaped" and sometimes its so bad that the bottom of the frame has wore clear through...

I'd ask the seller to send a close-up pic of the bottom of the frames very front crossmember to see if its D-shaped, and also a pic of that "bend on the back right tube just after the bearing mount" he mentioned.

Otherwise that looks to be a pretty nice race kart and his price seems fairly reasonable for a kart that probably cost somewhere around $2000 (w/o engine) when new.

Ask him about the spindles, often times the spindles have set caster/camber to turn better specifically left rather than straight. Sometimes people have the replacements, but at any rate get the brand(model) and everything you can on specs so you can get replacement parts.

good new pictures are in !!

here is the email.

I've attached some pictures of the assembled kart. There are actually two
sets of tires, Bridgestone YEY compound, with the ones on the kart 4.5"
fronts and 6" rears, and the loose ones 4.5" fronts and 7" rears. Both sets
of tires are used, and at least 10 years old. The yellow piece is a
steering fairing, and the white pieces are side pods and a nose cone. There
are a few bolts that are missing, but I can get those sorted out. Let me
know what you think.

one more email No major scratches on the bottom of the kart, tires still appear OK and hold air, all the bearings are OK. The only section of the frame that is bent is the left rear tube right behind the axle bearing mount. Right up to the bearing, the frame is still straight. It's been bent as long as I have had the kart, and it never affected anything at all. The front spindles are adjustable, both caster / camber and also front track width. There are a bunch of spacers on the front spindle, and the wheel is held on with a castle nut and quick release hairpin. There is a minor bend in one of the tie rods, but nothing that affects the performance - you can still adjust the toe.

it looks pretty decent except for that peice of bent tubing, but a bit of heat a bit of muscle bit of force and im pretty sure i can bend it back and for the tierod are they 3/8s ready rod or wuts the usual size ahh wut the h3ll ill bend that to and what do new tires run these days or for a pair of good used ones he said hes passing by my city friday night to saturdaymorning is when he be here

I think its a pretty good deal, try to get him to throw in that kart stand and any other spare parts he has. Sounds like its just a bent frame rail that mounts the bumper. I'll bet your sellers a pretty big dude, that karts got an xx-large seat and that steering column is several inches taller than a stock one.

What kinda engine are you thinking about going with?
Are you going to get into racing at a track?

Ye ima message him later today and set somethig up for him to meet me. i was thinking of putting my spare 6.5 clone on it he has a honda race moded engine and some kinda clutch hes trying to sell me but i dont want them he also has the engine mount with the engine he selling so ima try to get him to throw that in so i dont have to make one. what are the engine mounts worth usualy? also thier are no tracks around where i live and since im moving out to the counrty side kinda 5 acres. i was gonna ride it thier see how i like it. i also have currently made my own shifter kart from scratch the frame spindles pretty much everything that i havnt finished all i gota do is mount the cables gas tank paint it and hook a steering wheel up on that i have a crf50 w/88kit i got for 50bucks and a generator that didint work that i bought for 10dollers

i am also 6'4 210lbs you think ill fit?

so ima either keep the shifter kart im making now, or repaint the invader kart fix it up and then sell the kart for more to some1 or just drive it dont know yet

Motor mounts like you need start out at $40 and go up to over $100 for really nice ones.
The mount at the top of this page should work out fine for ya: http://www.bmikarts.com/shop/?shop=1&cat=166.

How much is he asking for the Honda engine with clutch and motor mount?

You'll probably fit a little loose in that seat but it should be close enough.

It sounds like you've thought of everything you should check on the kart, I hope it all turns out great for ya man

Cool, I'm glad you got it. I got an Invader kart too. I think yours was well worth the price but were you able to talk him down any lower?

Your Nerf bars aren't made for side pods like those, you'd need narrower nerfs so after the pods are mounted they'd be flush with the outside edge of your tires. Unless your gonna race you really don't need side pods anyway but you could cut the very outer sides off your pods and bolt them on as flat panels like oval racers have. It'd end up looking kinda like the first pics of my Invader (when it was Orange/White) in my thread here here at this link: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=6364

yah he mentioned they were not made for the kart and he was going to make them fit but didint get around to it

for now i dont know if ima put the panels and front on or not. just spent 4 hours dissasembling it waiting for the bolts to get un-rusted some where on thier good!. got the gas tank off the nozels and stuff all rusted so thier soaking in carb cleaner atm

tried cleaning the whole frame with dunk degreaser since a normal cotten rag and warm water wouldnt take the grease off
i got him down to 200 bucks with the kart stand thier are a few missing bolts on the steering and seating mounts but thatts about it. the bearings didint make any noise and the rear brake looked to have fairly new pads on it asside from a few scraps on the paint on the botom and a bit of wear by some of the parts that move its pretty good. and may i say first time siting in one of those karts its dam hard to get up and out l0l

my whole plan on this kart was to clean it up and stick my cr80 engine on it "that i got for 30bucks" and re sell for like 500 if i can get that much some karts in my area that look about the same time that have like kt100s and clones are around 800ish

but i think 200bucks for the rolling chassis is great since i have been looking up prices and stuff and a new brake setup its like 180bucks! and that front plastic part was 80bucks and the sides were 30 ea new plus all the bearings and cassetes and peddels
