If I manage to strike an arc and not just freeze the rod to the work, it looks like a bird had a few too many prunes.

Beautiful. I, for one, cannot wait to see the finished product!

Are you building this for yourself, or do you plan to sell it? :arf:

Thanks man.

Had to make up a choke adjuster, as a main part on the carb was missing, originally it used a cable to open and close the choke, but i just changed to manual via hand adjustment and held in place by a wing head bolt.

I like what you're doing alot kieran, the work thats gone into the quad so far is smart and some of your arc welding looks really professional.

I will ask this though, Whats the idea behind this?

It looks to be that you're going for a longer travel swing arm?

I only ask as from what I can see you have created an extention that bolts onto the existing swingarm. The bolt would naturally only allow the extention to rotate about the extention and you've countered that by welding some flat-bar between both which is ok but it does put some stress on the welds as you still have rotation about the bolt and only metal in a flat plain to try and correct this force. You'd be as well to stiffen that mounting up with a plate at 90 degrees to the one you've welded on. If its underneath then use two above if you can fit them on.

Just a suggestion and and I may have misjudged what each part does of course! :p

Thanks Jordan, as you can see its not a named quad and when i bought it it had a sheared axle at the splines, tried to ages to find a replacement axle but couldn't. Yamaha blasters are the closest to the original, with 2 inch extra each side, so i bought one, but found out that i could not mount it directally to the swingers carrier as the carrier was damaged when a bearing exploded and wore into it. So i got the blaster carrier, which lacks the idea of chain adjustment which it originally had, and cut off the old one to weld on the new carrier to have the blaster axle being a perfect fit.

Of couse i did want a little bit extra than original on the swinger for a smoother ride, and its a nice look, but its not extreme.

What you see in that pic is the top of the swinger including the carrier, underneath is where the shock attaches (not sure if i will stick with stock shock)

Thanks for the idea of the extra plate, i was not sure weather one plate would be strong enough, may need extra support..

looks good, makes me wan't to buy a quad to fix and make some $$. might try making bmx bike pegs, less than $5 of metal, one weld, drill a hole, get all shiny, sell for 20 bucks, could make like 4 sets in an hour no problem, thats like 60-70 bucks an hour! only trouble is selling 4 sets, :toetap05:

Thanks for all the comments lads.

@Lynx_Genisys, yea I was suprised at how long these take to rebuild, but what do you expect when the china man cut corners everywhere, even on the rustproofing. The only decent part is the engine...

What quad do you have?

Rust proofing? What rust proofing? :roflol:

The most horrible paint and lack of rust proofing I've ever seen, both on my dirt bike and Chinese buggy. :ack2:

Thanks

Yea they really slack on the painting.

Today I mounted the hydro, had to make up a new mount as changing carrier ment I could not use the original.

Thought I had a better pic.

Also Im in the process of making a fender/bumper, from just a basic design.

A bead on the bracket for the hydro, little angles/channels were in place when I welded, hense the nice flow.

Thanks for keeping interest lads.

What quad do you have?

its a 92 yamaha warrior (a.k.a YFM350)

its a great lil machine, 6 speed +reverse, great gearing too..

have a stage 1 hotcam, supertrap tune-able exhaust, K&N filter etc etc etc..

shes alotta of fun, but i bought it last spring, and shes been a lemon the whole way through.. *Sighs*

ride a day, fix for a week or two..

but all in all, its awesome, and i love her, and, SHE LOVES MEE!!! lol

i love ripping down the trails we have out here.. it was designed perfectly fopr where i ride.. the gearing and get up and go, its perfect.. i can catch anything! (So far, including can ams and ltrs)

but a track or somethingm i would prolly get totaly smoked.. lol

I have to fix her though, cuz the lil bro inlaw bought her a twist throttle for it as a thank you gift for building his demo-derby car.. cant let the twist throttle go to waste!!!! lmao!!!

its a love hate thing, we love to ride, but hate be broken..

Ugh.. i suspect its somethign to do witht he piston/crank, so maybe a bored out (440??) kit or something will ahve to go in.. of course that means oil coller and the whole 9 yards.. hehehe.. could be fun.. but i think for now, im gona go wih the go-kart route, build basicalyh a mini buggy so to speak.. lol)
