25 cc weed whacker motor

Hi every one,
I have an old 25 cc in working condition weed whacker motor collecting dust and I was wondering if I could use it on a small go kart for my son who is 6 yrs old.
Is this feasible ? I don't want to start designing the frame until I have the engine plant sorted.
I also have a Briggs and Stratton lawn mower engine but I think the cost of engineering it to work as a go kart motor might make things a bit pricey. I really wanna keep the price down. I can afford to buy a go kart, but where's the fun in that? plus I get to spend time with "me boy"!
Is there another more feasible motor if this doesn't fit the bill?
I would like to keep the engine budget under 100 Aus dollars if that's possible

the weed whacker is likely a 2 stroke engine,
and if it has the fancy "wear ear protection" sticker on it's housing...
I wouldn't, keep in mind that your kid is more vulnerable to noise than you are,
and a lot closer to the engine than you'd be too.

You could make a new quiter exhaust but for a two stroke that's either expensive or at least labourious.

a four stroke engine is the better option here IMHO.

I think Tony made his daughters kart when she was six as well..
so let's wait a bit until he chimes in.

Until then, my guess is, that the mower engine is the better option, if it's by chance a horizontal shaft it's just what you want (well if it's not more than maybe 5 hp)
You need not much power, in fact you don't WANT a lot of power, since in order to keep the kid safe,
So for that matter the weed whacker would be nice..
and if it was a -say 50cc four stroke- I'd say it'd be just perfect.

Oh... :welcome2: (almost forgot),
take a look around while we wait for Tony and others to chime in... lots of kid karts to get ideas from.

A 25cc 2 stroke is a bit small so, the kart it's mounted on will also need to be small & lightweight; I've seen a few mounted to scooters but, nothing much bigger...

The lawn mower engine, as you mentioned, would be a drama to convert from vertical to horizontal...

The good news is there's still plenty of options:
- a vintage victa 2 stroke (with the alloy carb, not the plastic carb) is a popular choice; being a 2 stroke, it can be used in any configuration with no modification
- A pocket bike engine, which can be bought rather cheap, either used or new
- 6.5hp Honda clones can be found on ebay for around $125...

Personally, I used a scott bonnar reel/cylinder mower; I was lucky enough to find one with a centrifugal clutch as opposed to the usual manual cup clutch; the mower was also a great source of chains & sprockets...

Something like this is also a good source for an engine but, be warned, a cent clutch will cost you a LOT more than the engine...

A few years ago, Bunnings & other stores released a line of lawn edgers under the brands Star & Kamodo; people are now almost giving them away because they're, pretty much, useless but, the engines are good...

As for parts sources, apart from ebay itself, the two main sources I've found are Star Products in WA & Cut Price Racing in QLD...

Hello everyone thanks for the replies, after looking around the site and seeing some other posts on this subject I have decided to go for a a 49cc 2 stroke. Mainly because I have doubts on whether the engine will perform.
So I went to my favourite shopping mall eBay and found this

This is a pit bike/quad motor for around $ 75 Aus. I am also getting the rear axel for this motor for around $80 aus hopefully this will do the trick see below
