208cc clone gov adjustment.

Hey guys, I have a clone powerfist 208cc. I can't get it to idle properly.
I had backed out the idle screw but to no avail. Looking around, fiddleing with gov lever, pressed it to the front of the motor, it runs fine at the proper rpm. Let go and it takes off.
Tried to put the return spring on the hole closest to the gov actuation rod, nothing changes.
I note there is a clamp w/nut bolt on the end of the gov rod, also the rod has a cut out as if to grip it with a pliers.

How do I adjust the gov position so it is returned to proper idle?

I did do a number of searches to no avail.
Carb is clean.
Motor is brand new, with fresh gas and oil.

Any ideas, I don't want to return this motor as will be a hassle to do so.

Check if it is a spined shaft if it is you should be able to reposition it to where it needs to be can't really say without pics tho

Like any other clone... Yes it has a splined shaft.

Then you should be able to pull it off and readjust it

Take the piece off the spline and rotate

The arm and shaft are not adjustable, as in there isn't any play to rotate.
Underneath the gov arm, there is a retaining clip that interferes with a cast in projection, that's where the clip rests against when at "idle"(there is a cut groove where this clip rests in aswell).

In my bike I built, with the other working champion motor, this is the same.
As far as I can see outside the motor, it is exactly the same and what it's suppose to be.
This princess brand isn't functioning the same when running.

Aside from opening it up and/or returning it.... What can I do... We have had a few stories of theses motors taking off on people... Be nice if we can get this going right...

could you add a pic of the governor linkage where it enters the case?
(below the tank)

generally the governor arm is loosened up (not moved though)
and then the inner rod is turned to adjust the governor.
then tightened down again .

but in any case that wouldn't actually cause it to rev to the moon at idle...
more likely there's something wrong with the choke or something.

as you can see that's for a gx240 and up .. since my gx200 manual isn't complete *shrugs* but it's the exact same process

So.......... I think I found the problem........


When I had setup and before I tightened up the throttle cable, I had actuated the hand lever just enough that when I had tightened it up, I had advanced the throttle lever enough to have it in a high "idle".

In a bit of a fit... About to remove it entirely to return it....
Undoing the throttle cable, found it released the throttle about a 1/4"....

Ya that's right.....

So a bit of adjustment, and she runs like it should...

I couldn't find the foot in mouth emoticon..... Definitely a face palm..... Fo sho...

I hate when that happens. I just had the opposite problem. I tightened the throttle back on my daughtrs Kart and It was too sloppy. So she was not getting full throttle. She did 2 laps around the yard and parked it. Stuck out a huge bottom lip, squinted her eyes and said "Now you made it too Slow" She is usually the mild mannered one, but She wants to GO FAST!

That was the exact problem with my bike, when I first got it going.
In that case the sheath slipped let the tention go as to not pull enough. I got half throttle and almost burnt my clutch from being overheated, due to slippage.

This time... The exact opposite...
