My second build off for the year.

Baja Doodlebug Blitz - The American Flag theme

So far i've painted the front and rear fenders. This is what i have to work with.

Will probably do some mods on this predator...

Okay, it's paint day. Picked up some more paint. Painted a tire blue. Painting the front forks white. Needs a couple coats of white and then clear.

Also moving motor mount location. So i can center engine more and flip clutch to have chain inside. Less chance of chain grabbing the leg i think...

Makes the gas tank cap harder to get to..... Oh well. Maybe i swap the tank later.

And now the grueling task of stripping the frame......ughh. not liking the stripping part (that's what she said).

Finished the rear wheel. Keeping it red white and blue. Front wheel also done and blue.

Picked up what i thought was red high heat paint for the exhaust. But it looks orange.... I may order some bright red online and paint again

Okay i said this once already, but i hate stripping paint.

Stripped frame
Primered frame
Golden frame.. Hmmm gold looks nice.....but thats the undercoat for the candy red.

Need another can of gold. Only got 1 and a half coats of primer on and one coat of gold..hope another gold coat will be enough before the red.

Edit: adding the final red with clear coat paint.

Who ever had this engine before me put in a coarse thread 5/16 and jacked it up. But running a tap through fixed it.
IMAG1997.jpg

And now i have The motor mounted back on. Chain and new tension.

Now I'm waiting for new brake cable and some blue hand grips.

Ordered hand grips from china! says going to take a month....so i ordered another pair from US. should be hear sooner. will use the other hand grips for my other bike i guess.

Also got the brake cable on with hand brake. Although the original one had been jacked up on the brake cable part. so it's not holding really good. may need to buy brake handle too. :(

Looking good.
whats your gear ratio?
are those 14" tyres?

6:1 not sure on the tire size. I'll have to check.

Couldn't wait for the pretty handles. Put the old ones on to test drive. This thing is pretty quick. Can't imagine making the engine faster..either be too scared to drive at full speed...

Anyways, here is a quick video. Phone in one hand while driving is hard. :)

Went into my local Fresno Ag store and they have this american flag mini bike!!! only has a 80cc engine so mine is way faster. And i think my paint is better :)

https://store.monstermoto.com/collections/mini-bikes/products/american-flag-mini-bike

Found the same one on monstermoto. Only 429.99 at my store.

....Still waiting for my hand grips. but i ran some loops today. can almost pull a wheelie. think if i lean back a little i can. Don't want to crash just yet though :)

Speaking of speed. I ran my mini bike with my phone/GPS in hand and i clocked my best speed without loosing control at 37MPH!!!! i thought it was fast but wow. That's crazy. Maybe this engine already has gov removed?? I kind of want to open it up and look because the gov control arm and spring return is all connected? so not sure how im getting such great speed! would expect 27mph not 37mph. and that was with phone in hand. i think it could go faster but i needed to grab the brakes...

Also red hand grips came in this morning. So here are some new pics. Plus i picked up a nice white helmet to be safe.

Yes the governor probably isn't functioning correctly or is removed because I did some math and in theory, with a top rpm of 3600 and 6:1 gear ratio, 15" tires, top speed should be 27 mph. 5000 rpm would be 37 mph.

---------- Post added at 09:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:10 PM ----------

Wait I just looked at your tires and they are 14" so my math is a little off but still pretty close.
25 mph at 3600 rpm and 35 mph at 5k rpm

I think tires are 14.1" standard doodle bug size. So yah my thoughts exactly. I should not be getting 37 at 3600. So i think im getting 5000rpm! maybe gov removed but linkage intact for throttle return only? The engine already had the aftermarket exhaust and intake. so maybe previous owner pulled gov as well. Lucky me i guess :)

Only issue now is its hard to stay running when i come to a stop. if i don't keep on the gas a little it dies. I'm messing with idle screw now to see if i can get it to stay running. And starting it i practically need choke off and throttle open a little. need to pull spark plug and see which way i am to lean or to rich.
