It seems, lately, it's been one step forward & two steps
back with these karts... mostly a case of poor planning &/or me being in too much of a rush to get them done...
After welding the rear stub axles on, I found that 5/8" ID bearings are rather difficult to find & expensive so, I've opted to go for the more common &
much cheaper 12mm ID bearings (I purchased
20 12mm bearings for the same price as
3 5/8" bearings)...
This means I not only need to remove & replace the rear stub axles, it also means I need to turn 8 hubs; turning all those hubs is not that big a deal, really, I planned to do that anyway as the wheels I chose to use have weak, rubbish hubs anyway, the frustrating part is having to
carefully remove the stubs without damaging anything else...
So, after turning two hubs & welding on the double flange plates, I
then realised the inside bearing notch isn't deep enough as the bearing interferes with the sprocket/brake disc adapter; now I have to remove the outside flange & attempt to machine them deeper
On the upside, making the flange plates was made easy due to a couple of recent purchases; I've been wanting one of these drill presses for years, just never got around to it; last week my hand drill press frustrated me for the last time so I went out & picked one up...
Yesterday, I went out & bought a hole saw kit; I had to also buy a separate hole saw to achieve the size I needed but, I've already used it on
another job, cutting the steering arms the correct size & shape to fit the spindle tubes...
