IMHO> Remove them and do what you need to to get the castor where you need it. I have them in my front spindle set-up and I do not see that they actually do anything better than the tires would. What are yours 2 1/2"??? mine are like 5"!!

I cannot see your springs doing a bit of good!! You need longer springs than that to notice anything. IF you use balloon tires, they act as a sort of shock because they 'give' to a certain extent when you hit a bump. Unless they are factory, I would not use the springs and if I had a good replacement for mine, I would remove them. That is the only reason they are still in place......to lift my kart that extra 5 inches for ground clearance. I have seen YouTube vids where they are replaced with carefully cut and prepared pipe to take up the space left after removing them.

I think the springs look kinda cool though even though I find them very un-useful. Do what you think is best and remember tires do take some shock out of the rough rides. And how often do you think you are going to take rocky trails or jump that bad boy?? I just want to play in the dry dirt or sand and raise dust!!! That's the fun of it. Looking great though and>>> :kewlsmiley:

Yes my spring is like 1.5" or so. Its mostly all compressed when I sit on the kart. I can't see them doing much good either. Not planning to jump this thing, mostly rip up some parking lots.

Didn't get much done today, mostly wandering around the shop looking for things I know I have somewhere. I did get the engine mounted however.

I had an hour in the shop this evening. I started cutting out some hubs for the brake and sprocket.

Then i bent up and tacked in the dash bar.

Spent a little time in the shop and started on the instrument cluster bezel.

Productive.

Can you come over for about 6 months or so? Lol.

I gotta be done by the end of the year right?

More progress today. My wife came out and gave me a hand and took pictures.

Here I am doing some hammer work on the instrument cluster.

Cutting threads on the ends of the tie rods

Templating the sides of the body.

Being silly

Didn't make a lot of progress tonight but I did make the large sprocket hub. It still needs a keyway, but it lets me get things lined up.

I decided to get a new engine for this project. The old one is cool and has sentimental value, but I don't want to keep worrying about the weight with only 2.5hp. So HF engine here I come. First of all it is necessary to check with the manufacturer to ensure the engine's compatibility.... Yep its compatible

Then you need to remove all the extras they give you.

Third, compare the size of the new engine with the old

And finally do some clearancing on the chassis, drop it in, and make sure you can still fit.

I also did some rust removal tonight.

I wanted to link a couple of mods for this engine in case someone else wondered. Its a good idea to remove the low oil sensor, why? http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=17624

How do you get rid of all those ugly linkages on top the engine?

Awesome

I am totally doing that on my dingo too. I was only going to make a speedo using the arduino but a magnet on the chain, the sensor from an alarm system and a 2 segment LED display instead of an LCD. If you are having more than one rider, put the LCD on a movable but stiff hinge, the viewing angles off center are atrocious.

I didn't get a chance to work on the bucket this weekend, but I did get a little done tonight.

Added a support for the jackshaft, patched in the body to the frame and tacked in the forward floor piece.

Since I tacked in the jack shaft support and front floor it became apparent that the dash was going to be too far forward. Out comes the grinder.

Thankfully it didn't take long to tack back together. The bad part is it will require a lot more finish welding.

I also welded up the steering wheel and started mocking up the clutch.

Spent way too much time in the shop tonight. I think I cut and hammered the firewall into 3 different shapes before I settled on this. It's tacked in now :2guns:

That is looking awesome!! Is there enough room for you to put the TC belt back on?

I think so. I still need to finish cut around the driven pulley and fab a guard that will roll in under it to protect my leg. So, there is some work to be done in that area for sure.

Thanks for all the positive replies, it sure helps to know someone else likes what I'm working on.

There is still a lot that needs to be done:
Finish welding, paint, brakes, pedals, throttle cable, chain guides, chain guards, some keyways, turning the jackshaft, front grill, seat, exhaust, muffler, intake, fuel system...

Then there is a lot of extra stuff I'd like to do if I have time:
Pin-striping, gauges, new tires (I think some of those ribbed slicks would look nice), lights, and more
