I'm not sure what you mean, There is are three hiems between the end of the steering arm, and the spindle. Each of those will allow the pitman arm to move. As far as the support of the end of the steering column, I'm not sure what I could put out at the end. It's been extended because it wasn't working where I had it originally. I'll see about taking off the wheel and taking pictures from a different angle. Also, I have several gussets to add, at this point it is just tacked together to see if it's functioning well enough that I won't have to break out the grinder and cut it all off again.

You know, your worse than me for not leaving stuff well enough alone. Whats this, the third revision for the front? :D

The problem I have, is that it's not "well enough" :D

One of the perils of not working off a set of plans is that you spend a fortune on cutting disks when stuff doesn't work out in reality the same way it worked out in your head. :roflol:

What was the reason that you changed the steering to what you have now? Are you not able to do it the "usual way"?

I don't know about the usual way, I didn't have room to put in 2 arms strait off the steering wheel. Also, this is supposed to be a side-by side, so having the wheel centered wouldn't work.

The reason I changed it from the way I had it, is that I don't have good enough machining tools, and I had allot of slop in it. I'm not sure I ever put up a picture of what it was like before, it was kind of ugly. :D

I tried to look for a before pic, but I didn't see any

It was set up more or less like this, except that everything was behind the shock tower instead of in front of it.

Got a few things done. Will probably mount the motor this week, then I need to start working on pedals and cables. My least favorite part.

Got the motor mounted and chains cut to length. Going to need at least 1 idler sprocket , but everything turns smoothly, and nothing went flying off into the sunset. :D
I think I need to change the jackshaft sprocket to about a 60 tooth for a year or so. I also decided that I need to redo the connection from the main frame to the swingarm. I don't like the way it looks.

Got the seat partly framed up. The children are excited.

Got everything going, but the gear ratio was too high for a 5 year old, so am adding another jackshaft on the frame, and one that bolts to my engine.
(20/10)(35/10)(40/17)(35/17)
2*3.5*2.35*2.05=33.7
Or without the second frame mounted jackshaft
2*3.5*2.05=14.35
wRPM1-106.82
wRPM2-250.87
FPM1-416.6*60-24996
FPM2-978.4*60-58704
MPH1-4.7
MPH2-11.1

Considering that he's 5, I think just under 5mph sounds pretty good to me, and then I can swap a jackshaft sprocket later if he needs more speed. Anyone have any thoughts or want to check my math?

Everything is tacked up, if only I had grabbed the #41 half links instead of the #40 I would be test driving this afternoon.

It runs! The wife is too hung over to take a video (It was her birthday last night) but here are some pics. It's a torquey little brute, first time I hammered the throttle it popped a little power wheelie. Tops out at about 5mph.

It looks great. There are just 2 safety features you should consider. First off is a floor pan so peoples feet don't hit the ground and get injured. Second is to put some sort of cover over your driv assembly. You don't want someones hair or fingers to get caught up in all that chain

Floor pan (and seat), and covers for the chains are going in this weekend. This test drive was to make sure everything works, and I'm not going to have to start cutting stuff up before I finish it. I am probably going to redo the steering again before too long.

are you gonna put a roll cage on it and stuff to make it look more like a utv
Probably a cage and a bed, and maybe a hood will make it on eventually.

It's alive!

Wow, it's not really quick is it. Maybe you could gear it up a little bit...
It's supposed to be slow, it's for a 5 year old. :roflol: I added the second jackshaft because its original gearing put it at a theoretical top speed of 22mph, which is way too fast. By the time the older boy outgrows this, I will have mine redone, and he can drive it, and then my younger son can step into this one.

Seat is done, at some point I may put padding on it, but at 5mph, I don't think it'll be a big deal.
The To Do list before the kids can drive it grows shorter!
