2 Speed Setup

Hello all i have an old go kart that i want to try and rig to make it a 2 speed, the go kart is chain driven.
Hope i have provided enough info, any help is appreciated.

I dont have any pics of the cart riht now but its a Kango Yard Star pretty much the same as the day i bought it, but im going to make it safer for faster speed runs

Not that high but i could make most if not all of it if its not Very Very complex.

comet made a 2 speed jackshaft but it was automatic.

you could have 2 clutches, one engages like normal, then when you get fast enough another clutch engages and the 1st clutch disengages somehow......... but that would be automatic.

the first thing id do to that kart would be make it live axle.

where both wheels are connected to the same sprocket and move together the same. twice the traction and stability.

Well i thought about it for a while but just cant come up with anything any other ideas?

i dont think it is a live axle, then your sprocket hub would be on the axle not wheel hub.

just saying, it would give you better traction, trying to get performance and torque from a 1 wheel kart and it will spin out or not control well.

It isnt connected directly to the wheel it connects to the axel when i spin one wheel the other spins as well

oh ok then, it just seems like its a 1wd for some reason.

my mower transmission (on my crawler/tractor/kart thingy) has these shift keys to change gears, maybe if you set up a jackshaft and used a similar concept it may work.

just something to think about.
