Ok guys I have 2 questions...might be dumb ones :p

1. What is the best way to clean a chain? I took it off my cart and saw where it is really dirty looking. I put it in a tubberware and am soaking it in oil. Good or bad idea??

2. How tight should I tighten the torque converter plate? Let me explain...when you put it all on the engine, this is the last plate that goes on the end of the crankshaft that the bolt goes through. I have an impact wrench...tried to use it for the first time today, and I believe I made it too tight (the plate didn't seem to be exactly straight on) so I took it off. Suggestions?

Thanks for putting up with me

Me, I'd soak the chain in gas, then after it's clean, let dry, then oil soak.

I'm not certain what the torque specs are on the TC, I just go until it's tight.
Using an impact you're apt to strip something.

If when you soak things in gas you burn down your house or the neighborhood...You're doing it wrong!

Well I'm not so sure about the gas idea lol

Yeah I realized it might strip it so I didn't use it anymore

GTC 30 series TAV2 spec is 14ft-lb for the drive pulley pilot bolt and 12ft-lb for the driven pulley jack shaft nut.

Thanks! Now, how do I measure how much torque that is??

Ok I will try that!

Yeah I'm not to keen on soaking it in gas and then letting it get hot right next to the engine lol

Dry gas has hard time lighting when its gone. Let it dry!!!

Good God!!!!

This is why we have to have warning labels on everything!

No no no I knew not to put it on there until it was dry. I'm not THAT stupid :roflol:

I just meant that I would be afraid it would still have trace amounts left or something.

Y'all must think I am beyond dumb to put a freshly soaked in gas chain back on the bike lol.

But I will stick to WD-40

Nobody mentioned WD40, Go Kart noob said

It's quite safe to use gas, I've been doing this for years & never had an issue but, if you're worried about it, use diesel; as a degreaser, it's better than gas &, here's the good part, it's non flammable...

I'm gonna suggest he stick with good 'ol soap and water.

engine degreaser

never liked playing with gas no should you i still would stand with a engine degreaser, but... it you house that might be on fire so its yo choice M8 do what you think is best. also i have never heard of gas being a proper degreaser, if you are going to use soap make sure u lube it well after as so it won't seize after (this i know for experience because i took apart a whole bike chain that was completely seized.)

I would assume prudence and common sense, but alas, these things aren't something easily found anymore.

First off, no one in their right mind (there I go again) would soak anything in something extremely flammable inside the house, let alone next to a gas water heater or furnace, or anything like that.

Second, if you're doing anything with gasoline, and all of sudden everything around you bursts into he77 fire, again you're doing something wrong.

And lastly, you just wouldn't believe how quickly gas can dissolve oil and grease.

Yeah thanks I decided to just soak in oil. It turned out pretty nice looking I think!

I agree with all that, and I am not one of the stupid ones who would do something dumb :D

I might use the gas trick one day

You guys are a bunch of weenies. My dad has put his cigarette on the edge of the solvent sink for years.

You're dad isn't smart for 2 reasons

1. Putting the cigarette on the edge of the sink and

2. The fact that he smokes
