Ok I have this perfect condition 2.5 hp engine from an edger I used to have, and I'm wondering whether it would work well for a go kart. I obviously don't want to spend the money on all the other parts if this engine is too weak or something like that. So I thought I would get some recommendations from people about whether I should do it or if I would just get a boring slow little go kart that isn't much fun to use. So, thoughts?

Yeah I'm just looking for a small cart just for streets and stuff to mess around and had fun with. So you think it will be underpowered? In what way do you mean? What type of performance do you think it could get speed and acceleration wise and is there anything I could do to use that engine but get good performance? Sorry that was a lot of questions but I'm just trying to get an idea.

Depending on your tire size and your weight it could work. I just hate to start off with something that small knowing that it is already a limitation unless its for little kids. You'll have to put a huge axle sprocket on to have good acceleration.
