Hi, i have an old 1980 gt80g yamaha motorcycle. I was wondering if anybody thinks its worth rebuilding and modifying for shifter kart racing? And also will it have enough power?

i've got the same motor on a mx 80. got no spark so its never run. i thought the same thing, puttin it on a kart. internal parts are not cheap. weisco piston and rings is a hundred bucks.clutch parts are available. if you can find parts cheap or yours are usable it would work. i would look into some port work/ bigger carb mod too.

ive had many gt80s there a good bike never die however pushing a cart might be a bit much for it tho. parts here are cheap for them chances are it might not be that bad off.

It really depends on why it needs rebuilt. If it is just rings and maybe a hone, sure its worth it. Maybe even worth it if it just needs a complete top end job. Not worth it if it has transmission troubles or a crank. The engine shouldn't have much trouble pushing a cart with the right gearing. These engines have torque.
