Nothing. Just worn out is all. Thought it was time to make it all new again. And change a few things to simply everything is all.Nice! Did not catch it, What was up with the old diff?
We wanted to turn and do donuts on a wheelie. But it wasn’t enough to actually do it. So now I’ve changed it up again. The rotor is mounted to the center diff now so it will stop both tires now anyways.John and Rhondi had a bumper-dragging Corvair trike with a rear brake on only one side also, nearly rolled it coming out of Zorba's dragging the bumper, but there was a car coming. Nice hydraulic setup (expensive-looking) you have there, but I'd still say spend the bucks for a matching one on the other side when you put that new differential on. You don't have Corvair-size tires on it, but I still wouldn't want to be on it when only a single tire locks up at any decent speed.
BTW: Don't those Peerless diffs have a rather low power rating?
Never been a fan of the setups where folks use their axle sprocket as a brake disc, because proper chain lubrication would make the "brake disc" all slickery. Never thought about a spare sprocket as a brake disc only, great idea for saving $$$.
Agreed. Steel is steel, and ebay got $32 out of me for a simple 8" x 1"hub brake disc. A free spare axle sprocket would have gotten that money spent on a really nice steak dinner at Outback instead. It's only the oil on a working axle sprocket that ever bothered me about using it for braking also. About .05 cents worth of Dawn detergent on an old spare axle sprocket to be the brake disc would have me steakin' it.If you clean the sprocket off with brake cleaner and other degreasers it should be a non issue.
Does that mean a set of spiders would be engaging/otherwise intermittently grabbing if 1 wheel was intermittently grabbing and/or slipping? Don't know enough about diffs and why they start engaging both sides, want to learn.trying to stop beating the heck out of the differential
Here is a "really" old video made by Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors Corp. that explains differentials pretty wellDoes that mean a set of spiders would be engaging/otherwise intermittently grabbing if 1 wheel was intermittently grabbing and/or slipping? Don't know enough about diffs and why they start engaging both sides, want to learn.
