1960's "Fox Karts" Go kart

Hi All,
I have a 1960s Fox Karts Go Kart.
The identification on it says;
Fox Karts
Janesville Wis.
Mak Kart
Nassau World Champions
It has a MC 7 McCULLOCH engine.
I was told it has a chrome molly frame.
I bought it from a guy that a has been storing it for about 40 years, since he was a teen!
I bought it planning to make an electric go kart.
I'm about to start welding to the frame and started to wonder, would someone just be kicking mad that I ruined a piece
of go karting history. Or is this just another old go kart?
Is there any value to the kart?

If it is chromo then i hope you are tig welding it. If you are gonna mig it then you might as well use elmers.

to me, thats a waist of metal and money
the motor and battary setup would cost wayyyyyy more money than a gas would, you could get a racing briggs for the price all that, it wouldnt go as fast and you have to recharge

From what I have seen those carts (especially dual engines)fetch A LOT of money, I would put it on ebay and do a scratch build with the money, and the only way to weld chromoly is tig or oxy.

Do not, I repeat, do not touch it. Sell it. If it is original and unrestored, you got a real keeper. Most collectors prefer an unrestored original to a restored kart. Foxes, Rupps, and even the early '70's Margays are bringing good $$. If it's complete and the frame is virgin (no bends or welds) it's probably a $1500 to $2000 kart.

You can buy a brand new Rupp Dart or A-Bone frame today. Made on the original tooling. Google "RobRon" and you'll find 'em. I talked to him about a bare frame with spindle brackets, it was about $600.

Keep it as is. Probably worth big bucks! Maybe a racing museum would buy it or lease it from you. Check up on it. Not much for off road, as the frame looks low and not built to take bumps. LEAVE IT AS IS. Go get another kart to customize and experiment. PLEASE. I am in the racing industry and know what I am talking about. Thanks for reading and hope you do the right thing. If you were local, I would give you one of my carts just to see that one kept original. The 'electrics' from a golf kart might work.Thaks. Scott V.

Original unmolested vintage karts are worth more than a restored one. My buddy had a twin engine margay new breed that I thought might go for $2000 on stealbay. It was supposed to be raced a few times and stored for 40+ years..It went for $3950.00. It was the same kart in my avitar but with 2 McCullochs on it...Sell it to me if you're going to hack on it.

The best I can say is I saved all the parts, I didn't weld or
drill any holes in the frame.
I've had two flat tires in 4 months, both from detachment of
the stem from the tube, such a disappointment they only lasted
45 years!

WOW! I am impressed about your successful electric mod. Nice torque! I think it may have been worth it and maybe if you run out and get a patent right away, you might be a rich man! Seriously, you should get that into prduction. Looks very stable and will do most things that a 5hp can't! At least you used a stable cart made for sliding and not flipping . Your video was detailed but can you post a detailed list of parts w/ prices and a schematic/drawing of assembly? I want to built one for myself. My neighbors will like me more. Thanks for the update and I say, it was worth it! Keep up the good work. Scott

Yes it has a lot of torque, I spun all the teeth off of my first motor sprocket!! I bought a better quality the second time.
The controller I have takes 1-1/2 seconds to rampup to full
power, If it went to full power immediately, look out!
Ya, I have never had any concern about flipping, very stable.
I built mine as cheap as I could.

That totals $760 and I did it cheap.
We are having a great time with it, I'm waiting for my 14 yr old to earn $100, I told him I'd buy the new batteries if he'd pay $100.
New batteries will make a big difference these batteries sag to about 41 volts a takeoff, new ones should stay at 48 volts.
I spent weeks reviewing and asking questions on this electric vehicle group learning how to build my gokart. It's about full size electric cars, but same general idea.

If I was to buy another controller, it would be one of the Alltrax
programable types , that allows you to set the rampup time and other things.
