i'd say that you definitely wouldn't want to use heat as that could do bad things to the metal, however i am not an engineer.

so i bent the axle back in to position. it is perfect now. now i need to focus on the breaks. I have 6 inch drum breaks, one on each wheel, being that they are independent of each other. I have the break shoes but i am missing the springs used to hold the pads together. Does anyone have an easy fix for this or should i just get some springs from the home crapo store. ill post pics soon.

brakes??

I was working on my drum breaks today and it seem that the brake shoes that I got with the kart are too big to fit inside the drum. I was wondering how to measure the drum in order to get the proper size shoes. What are the common sizes and if anyone knows what size shoes this 1960 homelite spitfire take it would be great to know. Thanks

i would use a long pipe. slip onto the axle and then you have a lot of leverage. weigh the kart down and bend the axle back to straight and keep meauring until it is good

EDIT: oops just saw your post.

whats the inside diameter of the drum?
