I found an 18hp side shaft engine. The guy tells me he can have it run for me before I buy it. But he wants $400.00 for it. I ain't paying that much. But what would one like this be worth.

Yeah that's too high, a new one isn't much more than that.
I'd keep looking, I just scored an older 16-hp for $40- a heck of a deal, but they're out there.

If it was a 20 or 22 then it would be worth 400 but 18's are not that rare at all 200.00 used 300 if really low hours
