Now this thread I want to make to have a better understanding of batt pack making and how I see the myriad of vids showing the laptop batteries and other recycling to get these cell out and make new packs
for various things, tool batteries/scooters/bikes ect... out of these 18650 lithium batteries

Im not an electronic guy, I would like too, but I see there is alot of offhanded math in it, thus Ive been a little turned off of it, but the interests still linger about... I have higher VAC experience, but none really in the DC field other than wiring lights and stereo in my truck.

Here on this forum and a few other places I see this type of recycling, but Ill I can see its a quick idea to a dangerous cluster bomb in your hand... Especially when I see the larger piles with the guy spot welding/soldering more and more together.... Every new one expecting an explosion...
Id like to better understand on the way of these battery home brew packs, and dangers that I dont see alot of people touching upon..

For better topic focus example, I saw some things on replacement of old Nicad batteries from 18v dewalt drill batteries to lithiums...
(I guess FA and Sid , theyll be the front runners on this, but hey im all ears...)

I believe Sid's kinda pre-occupied @ the moment
...but, IMO the number (1) concern in re-using used lithium battery cells is that there are so many variables

Different manufacturers use many different materials & methods of construction/assembly
…& lithium cells made with different materials have different voltage ranges

Also, if planning on re-using cells from multiple sources (laptops etc.) ya gotta know the resistances of each cell (to match 'em accordingly)
...& the capacities of each cell (& match 'em accordingly)

Okay..
So the cell capacity isnt fixed or it has waned a bit over time of use?
So does that also mean that the cell wont hold/isnt at the "listed voltage" over a period of time, hence the abundance of Batt pack recycling??

With the whole virus thing, Alex has decided for the next little while to concentrate on his business (like so many of us are worried about) and getting through this crazy time.

He will be back as fresh as ever soon :D :D :D
