16hp wooden go kart (Lifan Honda clone motorcycle engine)

This is my second homemade go kart with a lifan (honda clone) 16 hp engine . The kart had a top speed of 58mph.
Unfortunately a couple of months ago I had an accident and all my work was destroyed:furious2:

I see you have a basic understanding of the concept of structural integrity. This is cool looking..

I see why you could have had some problems, let me guess you had trouble stopping. those brakes look like for a bicycle.

What kind of wood is that. looks like a mahogany or something like that hardwood.

That is definately the best wooden kart I have seen. We generally discourage people from building karts out of wood because of the safety aspect, but your looks really well made. Unfortunately in an accident they never do well.

Are you going to fix the kart or try something else?

We have had a bit of a run with wooden karts here lately...

Wow, if you are jumping that then it must be pretty strong. How is it holding up and how did the build process go?

Well the crash was at 50 mph so I was very lucky to escape unharmed.
After the accident I decided to simply disarm the two wooden go karts and started a new project with a small engine, but this time with a rollcage.:bannana:

Landuse is right; that is the best planned, best built wooden kart we've seen here. It also looks like you've evaluated what failed, and are incorporating your changes/ upgrades into your new project. It looks great so far; please keep us informed on your progress!!!

For the record, as a general rule, around here we almost always root for the underdog; the only time we voice concerns/ post objections is when someone decides to ask for advice on safety related topics, and then throws all advise away....

I don't think you'll have to worry about that; your experiment was well thought out: good joint design, a type of wood that seems to be able to do things strength wise that I would have only thought possible with some of the best engineered plywood types.... I know that admitting mistakes isn't fun, but what exactly happened to cause you crash?

:surrender: If it's to sore a topic, I apologize in advance.....:surrender:

Well the crash ...
I went out to ride around the dunes to try some new hill climbs. The Go kart do it excellent. Back through a town a dog came out of nowhere and started to chase me.
Then i accelerate to lose it, bad idea. I burned the spotlights and ate a giant speed bump at 50mph...
I'm just grateful to be able to keep walking.

And once again sorry if my English is bad
