Hey guys... i'm considering building a trophy kart or something else interesting with a 16hp motor. I'm wondering what kind of weight that amount of hp will push around without issue.

maybe 4-500 lbs or so? i have no idea...

thanks in advance.

depends on how fast you want it to go.

16hp and a comet 40 series TC should be enough to move a 500lbs kart at 25-30mph, but YOU MUST GEAR IT THIS WAY!

good point Blue... i forgot to mention that it wouldn't be a speed demon... looking for no more than 30mph top speed and a good amount of torque.

500 pounds... its big? i would also consider a snowmobile engine or 250cc+ dirt bike engine.

the price of one of those may be close to the cost of a 16hp and comet 40. get a good deal and itll be cheaper.

16hp, Comet 40, 30MPH? Should have no problem. I was using an 11hp, Comet 40, combined kart and driver weight about 450lbs, 46MPH@4200RPM. Gear it for 30, and you'll have a stump-puller.
