Hey I am trying to find a good clutch to get for my 16hp Engine. I am trying to find a clutch that will be able to handle all the power.. What are some good brands to look for and get?

I have a predator 420cc engine and have had great luck with a series 40 driver and driven torque converter setup. It has never let me down.

Noram and Hillard are both good brands with bigger bore clutches.

I love it. A buddy of mine has a twister 150 kart, but we swapped in a stroker motor that's about 182cc now. He spent 500 on the engine, 250 on the exhaust, and 150 for a race cdi box and air filter. The engine builder said to expect around 14-15 hp, and 10k-11k rpm. My predator still has the governor, and is all stock. I get the dig every time, and stroll away from him even on straightaways. I am geared for low end torque and mid range speed.

I am having the hardest time find a chain clutch for my 16hp engine.. I am thinking about just getting a TC. I already have the pulley I just need the part that goes on the shaft because the series i got will not work on the 16hp engine.

I was having a discussion yesterday regarding big engines on chain drive and this seems like a good place to ask.

I am making a dirt track where the top speed of my cvt carts should be 20 or so, which is fine. I was thinking about a cart with a big engine geared to top out at 20-25mph. I figure with the power and torque and short gears it would probably accelerate quite viciously. Every (probably under powered) kart with chain drive I can recall driving was really bogged and slow out of the hole and accelerating which is why I think with 13+hp the game would be changed.

Is this a good idea or a bad idea? Would short gearing like that be dirt ripping awesome fun or would it be terrible?

None of them are rated for 16. One is up to 15, the others are up to 13.
